New Center Will Bring Educational and Cultural Benefit to South Loop

by Amanda Neely

Daystar Center
A new educational and cultural hub is being created in the South Loop. This hub, the Daystar Center, will consist of various nonprofits collaborating and sharing the space at 1550 South State Street. Collectively, they will gather together people from the South Loop, Chicago, and the region in educational, cultural and community efforts. The concept is already underway, but greater South Loop community engagement is requested.

Café Con Brio
On June 5, the Daystar Center is hosting Café Con Brio, a café-setting concert “with spirit.” This will be a great chance for those interested in education, culture and community to learn more about what the Daystar Center will be like and to provide their input on what kinds of programs should be offered. Overflow Coffee Bar will be making espresso drinks and catering desserts for the evening. The event starts at 6:30pm with a family-oriented children’s sing-a-long. A multi-genre concert will begin at 7:30 and conclude at 9:30. To register and see a list of performers, please click here.

Neighborhood Benefits
The Daystar Center will add value to the South Loop by providing a place for PreK-8 education, adult degree completion, yoga classes, music lessons, concerts, lectures, counseling services, senior home health care, and professional development workshops. The Daystar Center will bring added exposure to the South Loop by offering programming that will attract groups from around Chicago and around the world. With the inclusion of Overflow Coffee Bar, the Daystar Center will increase the independently-owned and operated business sector in the South Loop. Since the Daystar Center will benefit the neighborhood, South Loop residents, students, and workers are encouraged to get involved and help shape with the Daystar Center will become.
