South Loop Round Up

Restaurant Opening Dates Pushed Back
Waffles, the new restaurant located at 1400 S. Michigan Ave., originally scheduled to open on June 28, has pushed back the date to July 13. According to Waffles proprietor, Alex Hernandez, the delay is due to some kitchen equipment arriving later than expected, which pushed back their inspection.

Tribute Restaurant opening at 800 S. Michigan Ave. had its first food tasting for their staff on June 25 according to a post to their Twitter account. June 21 had been announced as the opening date for the much-anticipated eatery. As of this posting the official opening has not taken place. On June 21 Tribute announced on their Facebook page that they passed all their inspections and declared they are “officially a restaurant.”

Donna's Cafe is really getting "jazzy." Very soon, Donna's will be featuring live jazz trios and quartets to go along with your jazzy sandwiches and soups. Donna has informed us that she is now catering for business meetings.






Flavor 180 Now Serving Beer and Wine
Their tag line is "Changing the Face of Fast Food." Now you can enjoy a selection of beers and wines to go along with your meal. We wonder if the beer and wine falls into the "naughty" or "nice" category?




Concert in the Park July 12
Enjoy a family concert presented by the Vandercook College of Music. Musical selections include show tunes, big band, and more. The free concert starts at 7:00 p.m. at Chicago Women’s Park and Gardens. At 6:30 p.m. a family drum circle demonstration will take place.

Advisory Council Meeting July 14
The Chicago Women’s Park and Gardens Advisory Council open meeting will take place on July 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the park field house located at 1801 S. Indiana Ave.

 2nd Ward Bike Ride and Town Hall Meeting
Alderman Fioretti’s 2nd Ward Bike Ride is set for Saturday, July 16, 2011, rain or shine. The bike ride, between 10-15 miles, begins at Dunbar Park, 300 E. 31st St. (Calumet and 29th St.).Check in time is 8:00 a.m. The ride begins at 9:00 a.m. sharp. Registration is required by July 1, 2011. Forms should be e-mailed to maritza.garcia@cityofchicago.org or faxed to 312.583.1704. To download registration form, click here.

Refreshments and snacks will be served at Dunbar Park. Bike helmets are required to participate. This is a free event.
