South Loop Suicide Attempt Thwarted

At approximately 7:15 am this morning, a man was standing on the ledge of a south-facing balcony at 1250 S. Michigan Ave. For about 45 minutes, it appeared as if he might jump.

Man on the balcony ledge on
what looked like the sixth floor.
During the incident, traffic between 14th St. and Roosevelt Rd was blocked off. Northbound traffic was detoured east on 14th. Thirteenth St. was blocked east of S. Michigan to pedestrian traffic. Police and fire crews were in place with emergency vehicles and staff at the ready. There was an inflatable trampoline on the S. Michigan side of the building, not in front of where the man was threatening to jump.

The man finally jumped back onto the balcony from the ledge, followed by police, who were apparently speaking with him during the incident. Why the man was threatening to jump is unknown at this time.

    1. Thanks, Kristine. Hard to pin down the exact time. Based time frame on earliest tweets on Twitter. Glad it ended without anyone getting hurt.

  2. This seems like a private event that is not necessarily fit for a community blog. Lets hope this poor guy doesn't come across this blog and feel completely humiliated.

    1. I have great sympathy for anyone contemplating suicide, but when your actions block traffic, call out the police and fire dept., it's hardly a "private event." I think the story posted stuck to relevant facts w/out speculating on uncorroborated information.

  3. This idiot was attacking his girlfriend. She screamed for help and ran from the apartment a little before 6am. He chased her and was intercepted in the hall. She then ran into a neighbors apartment where he followed and continued to assault. She was finally able to escape down the stairwell. He then crossed the hall to another apartment looking for her. He then climbed over the balcony when the police came. COWARD
