Actually, she's only taking over Michigan Ave. from Wacker Dr. to Ohio St. until 5 a.m. Wednesday.
We walked downtown this afternoon to see how it was going and to take some pictures. The crowds trying to be part of the show were huge and lively. They were especially animated when TV cameras were in sight.
People were welcome to bring folding chairs while they waited to be part of the audience, but once the tapping begins, the folks at Harpo Productions want everyone to be standing. The only ones who will be sitting will be Oprah and her guests on stage. The main stage is just north of the Michigan Ave. Bridge, in the shadow of the Wrigley Building.
The sidewalks on both sides of Michigan Ave. between Wacker and Ohio didn't seem like they were filled during lunchtime with shoppers. In fact, on both the east and west sides, shoppers seemed nonexistent. We even noticed some store merchants outside their stores watching Oprah's 24th season kick off extravaganza.
Last year over 6,000 people jammed Millennium Park for last year's kick off show.
