New Cultural Center to Open in the South Loop

New Cultural Hub
The Daystar Center located at 1550 S. St. is opening “A new educational and cultural hub…in the South Loop.” According to their press release, the Daystar Center will be an active place and provide activities for people of all ages. “Beginning March 7, classes, lessons, and special events will be offered in music, arts, crafts, dance, film, languages and yoga.”

Open House
The Center is holding an open house on February 26, 2011 at 10 a.m. Those in attendance will hear a concert performed by music teachers. Visitors will also be able to attend “mini-sample classes.”

The Daystar Center is located at 1550 S. State St.

Making Connections
Steve Vryhof, Executive Director says “the Center is designed to make a difference by making connections—between generations, between people and ideas, between groups and institutions, between needs and resources.” Programming will be designed around “public interest and participation,” according to Vryhof.

Food, Coffee, and Wi-Fi
Next month, the Center lobby will house Overflow Coffee Bar, which will provide food, drink, and wi-fi. Overflow Coffee Bar is “a social enterprise that emphasizes fair labor and environmentally-friendly practices.”

For more information, visit the Daystar Web site or call 312-647-0001. The Center can also be reached via e-mail at info@daystarcenter.org. Room rentals are available for small and large groups.

  1. Thank you, Saddam. It wouldn't seem quite right if you didn't post your usual post.

  2. This is really nice. I had no idea it was going to be for all ages. I'm anxious to see if they actually offer all the classes mentioned on the website.

  4. A lot of what is offered at the Center will depend on what the community wants and/or is interested in. This is pretty typical; every neighborhood is different, but it will be fun to see how things develop.

Keep your eyes peeled, you might just see the Classic Movie Man teaching some classes at the Center.
