2011 Green Buildings Summit

Green Summit
The Alliance for a Greener South Loop will be hosting the 2011 Green Buildings Summit, Saturday, April 30, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The event is free, but event organizers are asking folks to register due to limited space. The summit will be held at 1530 S. State St., recipient of the Alliance's 2010 GreenEST Building Award.

Calling Condo Board Members
If you're a board member of a South Loop condo or town home association, this summit is for you. The agenda includes presentations from "the Alliance's GreenEST Building Award winners and local experts, tours of green practices and buildings; networking."

2011 South Loop Film Festival April 28

The 2011 South Loop Film Festival is set for Thursday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. The annual event will feature a showing of short films produced and directed by independent filmmakers. Films will be screened at ShowPlace ICON Theatre, 150 Roosevelt Rd. Film festival attendees will receive a free swag bag full of goodies courtesy of Whole Foods Market South Loop.

Tickets are $10 and are available online and at the door. You may also call 312-435-4600 to reserve tickets. Three days before the film, on April 25, a local vendor fair in conjunction with the festival will take place at Whole Foods Market South Loop, 1101 S. Beer vs Wine!

Whole Foods Market South Loop, 1101 S. Canal St., presents a unique event pitting beer against wine, Monday August 16 at 6:30 p.m. The cost for this event is $15 per person.

Top of the Card
Sommelier Fernando Beteta and Cicerone Wes Phillips will be pairing beer and wine with local cheeses. This is the first event in a three-part series. Proceeds from this event will be donated to Greater Chicago Food Depository. You may register for this event at the Whole Foods customer service desk or online by clicking here.

Bash on Wabash Volunteer Kickoff

The Greater South Loop Association (GSLA) August social event was held at the Whole Foods Market, 1101 S. Canal St. The event also  marked the volunteer kickoff for the annual Bash on Wabash. The Bash on Wabash is the South Loop's premier summer festival.

Food and wine was provided by new GSLA business members Whole Foods and Showcase Icon Lobby Lounge. Twenty-five dollar gift cards to Showcase Icon Lobby Lounge were distributed to those in attendance.

South Loop neighbors mingle

Volunteers were encouraged to pick up posters and postcards to promote the Bash. At this year's Bash, there will be two music stages featuring popular bands like Sixteen Candles and Sunday headliner, Cracker.
