13th and Wabash Continued

Obstruction Moved
The truck flatbed that was blocking the south-facing stop sign at S. Wabash and 13th has been moved to the east side of S. Wabash near 14th. We put in a call to 311 yesterday and we’re happy to see they made sure the truck was moved.

What's the 311?
South Loop Connection still hasn’t been able to get any information on how long the water main work will take. The signs say call the 311 operator for information, which we did this afternoon. The 311 operator was very polite, but the work seemed to be as big a surprise to her as to us. She checked with her supervisor, but she was not able to provide any additional information.

Timing is Everything
The timing couldn’t be worse for the restaurants along S. Wabash offering alfresco dining, just when the weather is finally getting nice. We called Gioco, but there was no one available to speak with us before this piece was posted. Zapatista’s had their answering service on.

There is also sewer work going on along Michigan Ave., which seems to be another surprise to most of us.

Networking at Zapatista

The networking event at Zapatista South Loop, sponsored by the Greater South Loop Association (GSLA) was a great success. Friends and neighbors mingled together while eating pizza,  guacamole and chips.

GSLA Event at Zapatista Tuesday Night

The Greater South Loop Association (GSLA) is sponsoring an event on Tuesday June 22, 2010 at Zapatista, 1307 S. Wabash Ave.

 

• Where: Zapatista, Abuelos Room, 1307 S. Wabash
• Time: 6pm
• Entry: $5 for food - selections include chips, guacamole, salsa and pizza from the brand new "Flo & Santos" restaurant
• Drink Specials: $7.75 Signature Margaritas and $5 Mojitos will be available

Chicago Restaurant Week

Today is the start of the 3rd annual Chicago Restaurant Week. It runs through February 28. Over 170 restaurants around the city have special prix fixe meals for lunch and dinner.

South Loop favorites
Some South Loop favorites are among those participating, including The Chicago Firehouse, La Cantina Grill, Weather Mark Tavern, Zapatista's, and one of my favorites, Tampas Valencia.

This is a great way to check out some of those restaurants you've been meaning to try and, with the prix fixe meals, save some money too.
