South Loop Neighbors’ Night Out - A Monthly Community Development Happy Hour

Greater South Loop Association (GSLA) will host Neighbors’ Night Out, March 9, 2016 at Vice District Brewing, 1454 S. Michigan Ave. for anyone wanting to meet up and be part of the neighborhood’s future. Each month will have a general topic, and we’ll invite relevant speakers to share some thoughts and be part of the dialogue. These sessions will also help the Greater South Loop Association fulfill its role as a conduit for neighborhood input on important community development issues. This month’s topic: real estate development.

There’s no charge to attend (of course, the bar is open!) but GSLA asks that you register so they can have a sense of how many people will be in attendance.

In 2016 the GSLA will host monthly events to bring neighbors together – for anyone wanting to help be part of the neighborhood’s future. Each month will have a general topic, and we’ll invite relevant speakers to share some thoughts and be part of the dialogue. GSLA’s February 20, 2014 Neighbor’s Night Out: Jazz at PianoForte

Greater South Loop Association’s Neighbor’s Night Out, February 20, 2014, will feature a jazz piano performance by Reginald Robinson. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the performance starts at 7 p.m. Reception includes wine and appetizers (contributed by Kroll’s South Loop). PianoForte is located at 1335 S. Michigan Ave. Tickers for this event at $10 per person and can be purchased online at the PianoForte Web Site.

About Reginald Robinson
20 years after Reginald Robinson’s emergence as a young, self-taught, against the grain pianist and composer, he has become an internationally recognized pianist, recording artist and educator.

His love for music started in 1984 with his brother Marlando playing Big band jazz records at home and then on to ragtime two years later in 7th grade when a city funded arts program (Urban Gateways) gave an assembly with a small jazz ensemble. The assembly was led by jazz trumpeter Orbert Davis and included in the band other jazz luminaries like Ari Brown. In the middle of the show the group played a sample of Scott Joplin’s “The Entertainer” and after hearing it Reginald decided this was the kind of music he wanted to play. Later that year his parents purchased a small electronic keyboard and the following year a real piano. With his parents not being able to afford him a music education, he began to teach himself how to read and write music. This involved self-quizzing from music education books, creating his own piano exercises and studying published music scores and recordings.

In November of 2011 Reginald was featured in a theatrical production called Keep a Song in Your Soul.

Free Movie In Daniel Webster Park - July 30, 2013

The Greater South Loop Association would like you to join them for a free movie in Daniel Webster Park, located at 1401 S. Indiana Ave. on July 30, 2013. In cooperation with the Chicago Park District’s Movies in the Park and the city’s Night out in the Parks initiative, the GSLA is underwriting the family-friendly animated blockbuster, Hotel Transylvania. Movies in the Parks is presented by Charter One, with additional support from RCN. The movie starts at dusk.

Hotel Transylvania is a resort for monsters only. It’s a ghoulishly delightful respite from mean-spirited humans. Count Dracula invites his monster friends—Frankenstein’s monster, Mummy, a Werewolf family—to the hotel to help celebrate the 118th birthday of his daughter, Mavis. All goes according to daddy’s plan until a 21-year-old hiker stumbles upon the hotel and more importantly, Mavis. How does Dracula protect his daughter from this human intruder? How does he save Hotel Transyvania?

Released on September 28, 2012, Hotel Transyvania set a record for the highest September opening weekend ever, eventually earning almost $350 million at the box office. Featuring the voice talent of Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon David Spade, and Cee Lo Green, the film was nominate for a Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film. A sequel is scheduled for release in 2015.

Join the GSLA, along with your friends and neighbors for a great night of family fun under the stars. Movie starts at dusk, but come early to claim your spot. The Chicago Park District will provide popcorn free. Additional movie treats will be available for purchase at the park.

M Lounge, 1520 S Wabash Ave., will be the setting for the Greater South Loop Association’s Neighbor’s Night Out, May 16, 2013 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. A $10 donation gets you two drink tickets. The donation also includes passed Hor D’oeurves from Artists Cafe.

GSLA Holiday Party December 11, 2012

The Greater South Loop Association holiday party is this month’s “Neighbor’s Night Out.” Celebrate the holidays with your friends and neighbors at Square One, 14th and S. Michigan from 6- 9 p.m. Square One is the South Loop’s “newest neighborhood nightspot.” It’s been favorably reviewed in TimeOut Chicago, Grub Street Chicago, and RedEye.

Cost is $20 per person for appetizers and select cocktails. The GSLA requests that you bring a non-perishable food item or monetary donation to help support the South Loop Community Church Food Pantry.

The SLCC Food Pantry helps provide good, nourishing food to those in need in the South Loop. The food pantry is open every Saturday 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.

The GSLA is a A 501(c)(3) not-for-profit community association comprised of an alliance of residents focused on the overarching mission to maintain and improve the South Loop as a vibrant and diverse, inclusive community. GSLA’s “Neighbor’s Night Out” this Thursday at Weather Mark Tavern

The Greater South Loop Association’s next “Neighbor’s Night Out” event will be held July 26, 2012 at Weather Mark Tavern, 1503 S. Michigan Ave. at 6:30 p.m.

A $10 donation will get you two drink tickets good for any beer, wine, or well drink on the menu. This includes all available craft beers. An appetizer buffet will also be included, as well as gift certificate give-aways from local South Loop businesses. If you have a dog or cat, you’ll want the $300 gift certificate for a professional dental cleaning from Metropolitan Veterinary Center. Gift certificates from Glessner House Museum, Organizing With You, Urban Re-Mix,and, Well Future Pharmacy (our newest neighbor at 1442 S. Michigan Ave.) will also be given away at this event.

After the NNO event, the GSLA encourages you to stay, grab your friends, and play team trivia at Weather Mark, starting at 7:30 p.m.

If you’re interested in volunteering for the 2012 Bash on Wabash (August 25-26), they’ll be opportunity to do so on Thursday at Weather Mark.

The Greater South Loop Association is holding a “Neighbor’s Night Out” event at Brasserie by LM, 800 S. Michigan Ave., June 21, 2012 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

This is a great opportunity to network, meet your neighbors, and reconnect with friends, while sampling delicious hors d’oeuvres and enjoying some drinks. A $10 donation includes two drink coupons and passed hors d’ oeuvres. Enjoy a great night out while you help support this new restaurant in the South Loop.

“Neighbors Night Out” at Chicago Art Exchange

The Greater South Loop Association’s “Neighbors Night Out”at Chicago Art Exchange tonight had a great turnout. Guests sipped wine, viewed art, and ate hors d’oeuvres, provided by Tapas Valencia.

Chicago Art Exchange is the newest gallery to open in the South Loop and is located at 1530 S. State St. The gallery space is fairly large and filled with an interesting mix of painting, photography, sculpture, and mixed media.

The GSLA presents monthly “Neighbors Night Out” events at venues in the South Loop to promote local businesses and provide an opportunity for neighbors to meet and network. Tonight’s event was sponsored by Weichert Realtors Frankel and Giles, and Tapas Valencia

GSLA “Neighbors Night Out” This Thursday

The Greater South Loop Association will be presenting “Neighbors Night Out” at the newly opened Chicago Art Exchange gallery on Thursday, September 22, 2011 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. The gallery is located at 1530 S. State St.

This free event will include complimentary wine-tasting and hors d’oeuvres served by Tapas Valencia.

Valet parking is available for $6.
